Nice review Rob. I have two Acratech ballheads...and I am considering the GP that you reviewed. I love their products, obviously. I have the original Acratech head and the Large Lens head. I love the size, durability and the functionality of the Acratech heads.

Rob,
Quite an impressive portfolio! You do realize that posting these on your website they are eliminated from SBCC competitions? Can't blame me for trying to narrow down the competition:)

Hi Rob,
I also saw the PEM show and it was good but the lighting could have been better. Like you I was impressed with the tonal range especially the detail in some of the darker images.
If you get a chance, check out bobkilgore.com and let me know what you think.

I agree with the idea about time influencing photography. Particularly in HDR photography, you cancombine three separate times to produce one photograph. This is one of the most important distinctions between digital photography and its ancestor, analog photography.

Why thank you Rob! May I add that without your noon-time Photo Club sessions at Analog Devices, I would have been a lot less confident in pursuing this goal. And of course, working at Analog would have only been an 18% gray experience!

Thanks for mentioning my name and sites. I learned about ACEOs on Etsy. I find them a neat product to offer at art shows. But my favorite is when they end up in a child's hands because I am teaching them about art.

Robert ... Thank you for this wonderful, insightful post on having an opinion without first-hand experience. Well said.

Andy Sernovitz, CEO of the Social Media Business Council (SocialMedia.org), participated in Guy Kawasaki and my first Bloggers-Media Embark a year ago. Our group was 16 to the USS Nimitz. He came away from it determined to let other have, what you say here, a first-hand experience. So, he nominated you, and the Navy accepted Andy's nomination. If you wish to nominate people for embarks ... not just to carriers ... let me know. I will assist to best of my abilities to give others first-hand experiences at sea from which to further remodel, perhaps, their opinions. Thank you again for this wonderful post. Hmmm ... what wasn't comfortable on that ship? Anchors Aweigh, Dennis Hall

Good points. I think the reason an iPad may appeal to me is for my architectural photography (Medieval France) and stained glass windows. It may make it less of a crap shoot.

Thanks.

Do you post your photos on Flickr? I'd like to see more images you've produced with this camera. I'm considering the 7d or the 5d and I'd like to see what other photographers are producing with this gear.

Great post. Thanks for the info.

Thanks so much for this article. It is one of the most well written and helpful descriptions of the choices facing someone who wants to do self-publishing or selling. I have written a book on Gothic Architecture (Viking 2001) that I may redo myself with new photos. This was very helpful. Thanks, Stan

Belinda:

I set up my Canon 40D to take pictures every 3 minutes over night last night. Took 160 pictures over 8 hours. Battery icon showed the camera was still full. I think as long as you are not running long exposures, your batteries may be fine.

Rob

Hello Belinda:

The time lapse I demonstrated was over a 2 hour period. My batteries did fine. For a 24 hour period however, you may need to plug the camera in or do a battery swap. I would ,however, be careful with a battery swap because you may move the camera and any movement will ruin the time lapse effect. Also, depending on the camera you are using your mileage may vary.

Good luck and let me know how it works out. (I may test it out tonight just to see how long it works myself). I currently shoot with a Canon 40D.

Rob

Hi Rob,
Somehow the links you gave are not working for me. I tried many times but same result. It says "done" without anything on the screen. Does it need some kind applet to run?
I really liked the way you have shared the whole setup procedure. Thanks for that. Photogrpahs are really gr8. The best part I like about this picture is that it is very good combination of man made beautiful buildings and beautiful mountains by Nature. It is tough to have best of both world in a single frame and this shot covers both. GREAT JOB. The only thing I wish to improve in this picture is on the right side "POLO TOWERS". The "S" is half in the picture so either it should be fully removed(you may crop) or complete. Removing or having complete "Polo Tower" will give the flawless frame.
