Nice review Rob. I have two Acratech ballheads…and I am considering the GP that you reviewed. I love their products, obviously. I have the original Acratech head and the Large Lens head. I love the size, durability and the functionality of the Acratech heads.

Hi Rob,
I also saw the PEM show and it was good but the lighting could have been better. Like you I was impressed with the tonal range especially the detail in some of the darker images.

I agree with the idea about time influencing photography. Particularly in HDR photography, you cancombine three separate times to produce one photograph. This is one of the most important distinctions between digital photography and its ancestor, analog photography.

Why thank you Rob! May I add that without your noon-time Photo Club sessions at Analog Devices, I would have been a lot less confident in pursuing this goal. And of course, working at Analog would have only been an 18% gray experience!

Good points. I think the reason an iPad may appeal to me is for my architectural photography (Medieval France) and stained glass windows. It may make it less of a crap shoot.

Belinda:

I set up my Canon 40D to take pictures every 3 minutes over night last night. Took 160 pictures over 8 hours. Battery icon showed the camera was still full. I think as long as you are not running long exposures, your batteries may be fine.

Hello Belinda:

The time lapse I demonstrated was over a 2 hour period. My batteries did fine. For a 24 hour period however, you may need to plug the camera in or do a battery swap. I would ,however, be careful with a battery swap because you may move the camera and any movement will ruin the time lapse effect. Also, depending on the camera you are using your mileage may vary.

Good luck and let me know how it works out. (I may test it out tonight just to see how long it works myself). I currently shoot with a Canon 40D.

I just checked on my backup computer and it is working fine. .mov files sometimes have problems with browsers. (I guess that is why youtube exists.)

I really liked the way you have shared the whole setup procedure. Thanks for that. Photogrpahs are really gr8. The best part I like about this picture is that it is very good combination of man made beautiful buildings and beautiful mountains by Nature. It is tough to have best of both world in a single frame and this shot covers both. GREAT JOB. The only thing I wish to improve in this picture is on the right side “POLO TOWERS”. The “S” is half in the picture so either it should be fully removed(you may crop) or complete. Removing or having complete “Polo Tower” will give the flawless frame.
